Expedition Santa Cruz
At LRP we believe that hands on education is integral to a primary school curriculum and helps add to the students’ understanding of the material. Our expeditions give the children an opportunity to learn important environmental and scientific concepts interactively and outdoors in an open air environment. We take each class to Playa Santa Cruz, where they engage in activities ranging from the history and geology of curacao, to the water cycle and the impact of overfishing and littering on the sealife and reefs. Each expedition is tailored to the class level and current lessons, and includes activities taught at Reef Fest.
On our expeditions the students see more than pictures in a book or writing on a chalkboard – they see their island up close and personal. They interact with the plant and animal life, and do activities directly related to their island. They see first hand the negative impact of environmental neglect, and the positive impact of conservation. By seeing and doing, the students gain a different viewpoint on conservation and how it directly affects their daily lives on Curacao; and how easily they can contribute to the conservation efforts.
