Kids for Corals
Kids for Corals is a volunteer run program for underprivileged children who already can swim. Children are invited to participate in a 5 session program which transports them to different beaches around the island and are taught about snorkeling and environmental protection.
Kids for Coral volunteers provide transportation, instruction, food, beverages and fun for all during this week-end course. Children get the chance to see different parts of the island and enjoy different beaches during the five class program. On completion of the program, each child can receive a graduation certificate if the child passes the last day’s testing.
Kids for Corals was organized as a project by Reef Care Curacao in 1993, to create a generation of children who could safely value their coral reefs. The program lost focus in 2001, until the arrival of Lee’s Reef Project’s intern Arda Riedijk. In February, 2004, Arda re-energized the program which now has multiple courses across the island and is completely volunteer run.
